Bonnet Island, Strahan, Tasmania

In Strahan if you are looking for something other than the Gordon River Cruise and West Coast Wilderness Railway (which by the way are must dos), well my tip is do the Bonnet Island Penguin Tour. With a maximum of 10, our family of 8 soon adopted the other older couple. Crossing Macquarie Harbour with the setting sun made the surrounding coastline a kaleidoscope of colour. At Bonnet Island Jetty we enjoyed delicious Tasmanian Cheese and Wine on board. Once dark with torches provided we made our way ashore along the track to the lighthouse seeing many delightful Little Penguins and ravenous chicks. Bonnet Island has amazing views through Hell’s Gates. Reluctantly leaving, we were pleasantly surprised with piping hot chocolates, boy were they appreciated as we enjoyed watching the lights from shore on our trip back. The best tour we have ever done.
