Gili Gede, Lombok

ATMs are nowhere to be found on or near the 'Secret Gilis', you must bring the money you need. Our taxi driver rolled his eyes as we reached the jetty where we would negotiate the price of a boat for our short journey to Gili Gede. 'No ATMs here!' he said. Two hours later, with as many notes as the nearest machine would allow, we boarded our chartered vessel - a bright blue fishing boat. The journey was swift as the sheltered seas were calm. Wading up the beach, we found our lodgings were basic with a simple meal provided. We weren't here for luxuries; we were here to escape the throng and find some quiet. A simple drink made from the local arrack and some old cane furniture on the shoreline provided the setting to absorb the spectacular scenery around us for the first time. We had arrived.
